The Houses Quick Reference guide
FIRST HOUSE
Self, Motivation, & Personality
The First House is associated with beginnings, your identity, and your personality. Your ascendant or rising sits on the 1st House cusp. It is your first impressions, appearance, way of being, and physical body. The First House is how you see yourself more than anything else.
SECOND HOUSE
Resources, Possessions, & Values
The Second House is associated with worth, value, and your tangible possessions. It highlights what belongs to you, as well as your resources on every level. Remember that resources are not limited to money, but can be time, energy, and space. Your personal values and talents also lie here.
THIRD HOUSE
Communication, Local Environment, & Immediate Connections
The Third House is associated with communication, speech, and language. It shows how you learn, represents your local environment, and speaks to your early education. It also can be an indication of your relationships with your neighbors, siblings, cousins, or anyone in your immediate locality.
FOURTH HOUSE
Roots, Foundations, Family, & The Past
The Fourth House is associated with your home as an environment and emotional place, your upbringing, and your family (chosen and given). It is your foundations and private world, as well as ancestry and history. It represents your past experiences and what makes you who you are.
FIFTH HOUSE
Creativity, Joy, & Expression
The Fifth House is associated with your creativity, self-expression, and recreation. It is the house of children, hobbies, romance, risks, and leisure. It is what we create in this world and allow our inner child to explore. It can also be our romantic preferences and desires.
SIXTH HOUSE
Well-being, Daily Life/Routines, & Vocational Situations
The Sixth House is associated with your work environment, your daily life, work ethic, routines, and health. Here lies your co-workers, rituals, your acts of service, and how you bring order to your life. It also speaks to how you care: for yourself, others, and animals. It may also encompass how you move your body and your wellness regimen.
SEVENTH HOUSE
Relationships, Harmony, & Contracts
The Seventh House is associated with all one-on-one relationships in your life (romantic, business, platonic, etc). It is your open enemies, your contractual obligations, your projection, and oftentimes your marriage or long-term commitments. Here you seek what you are missing in life.
EIGHTH HOUSE
Intimacy, Sharing, & Shadow Work
The Eighth House is a complicated house. It holds your intimacy, shared assets/resources, deep desires, primal motives, and parts of your shadow self. It also rules death, transformation, and reincarnation. This is an area of your chart that also holds your magic and inner-power.
NINTH HOUSE
Opportunities, Quest, & Philosophies
The Ninth House holds our journey for meaning and our desire to learn/reach beyond the horizon. It also rules foreign travel, teaching, religion, beliefs, and philosophy. It is where we gain wisdom, seek exposure to new ideas/cultures, and seek freedom. It can also be a place of our aspirations.
TENTH HOUSE
Publicity, Legacy, & Life Path
The Tenth House can be your career, life path, vocation, ambition, and status. Here you recognize your public image, can see what you're known for, and know how you govern yourself. This is the area of your chart that asks you to take charge of your life. The legacies you leave behind are found here, too.
ELEVENTH HOUSE
Hopes, Wishes, Community, & Support
The Eleventh House is a place that creates a web in our lives. Here you will see your hopes, dreams, wishes, community, goals, teamwork abilities, and friendships. This is also a house that shows assets gained through your work in your career, thus its ancient relationship with “good fortune”. It can be where we seek support or learn to support others.
TWELFTH HOUSE
Intuition, Subconscious, & Endings
The Twelfth House embodies energy from all the other houses before it. It holds our higher purpose/service, intuition, artistic abilities, portal to past lives, transcendence, and work behind the scenes. It can be a place of “karma”, sacrifice, and where we can explore our dream world. It is also a space of endings, where we learn to surrender and let go.
