Magickal Floor Wash

IMG_2837_jpg.JPG

I personally have Virgo on my fourth house cusp, so I can be very persnickety about my home and its cleanliness. I wash my floors every weekend as a way to rid my home of the week’s energy and start fresh. It is like a reset button for me. I figured I would share one of my favorite floor washing recipes and rituals. Feel free to modify it for yourself and with what you have on-hand. The ingredients themselves will only guide and influence but will never be the sole factor here. The intention is in the action and the process, not always in the ingredients alone.

Ingredients

1 gallon of warm water

3/4 cup olive oil

1/2 lemon juiced

1/4 cup white vinegar

Tools

Broom

Dust pan (optional)

Mop

Bucket

Directions

Sweep:

Sweep your floor with a broom, collecting any debris that may be on the surface of the floor. In Italian folk tradition, you sweep everything out the back door. However, it is perfectly fine to sweep and just pick up the debris and throw it away. The act is cleansing and doing what feels right for you. Vacuuming is also perfectly acceptable if that is more convenient (or you have carpet). I personally sweep, then vacuum afterward before I mop. Just in case.

Wash:

Combine the above ingredients together in a bucket and stir clockwise 5 times with a mop while speaking what you’d like to release. When washing your floors, imagine you’re scrubbing away your doubts, fears and anything that is holding you back. Lemon acts as a purifier and energizer. Vinegar is a powerful cleanser. Olive Oil blesses, protects and anoints. It also creates a beautiful shine. Let the solution stay on the floor for 15 minutes or so, and then wipe clean. Wiping clean is important as it engages you in the action of tying up the loose ends instead of waiting for things to pan out. The floors will be a little slick from the oil, so be careful!
